25-June-2010 / Peninsula Drive - Cape Point (Shark cancellation #1)

It's not good if you fall over the edge according to this sign.

Self explanatory, right? We're as close to Antarctica as we're gonna get.

There's a reason this area is called Boulders.

This is a fishing boat. They go out to sea and catch fish with it.

We were met by a seal swimming by the dock when we showed up.

24-June-2010 / Table Mountain - 1st Day in Cape Town

Northern view from atop Table Mountain. Greenpoint Stadium in top left. It took us 4 hours to get here. We wanted to just drop at this point.

Joe looks out over Cape Town to the west of Table Mountain.

Very steep ladders ahead which then led to a waterfall. We were still excited at this point because we thought we were close...we had no idea what we were in for.

Day 1 in Cape Town. After about 3 hours of sleep and a 2 hour plane ride, we had some breakfast and were convinced we should hike up Table Mountain by our host due to the great visibility. Easier said than done.

22-June-2010 / Soweto Tour

Hector Peterson Memorial. He was 13 when he was shot by police. His death sent off the student uprising in Soweto.

This is where the water comes from for this entire neighborhood.

These houses were originally built for mine workers. No electricity, no running water. People are still living there today waiting for the gov't to supply new/better housing.

5 million people living in Soweto today.

20-June-2010 / Apartheid Museum & Brasil vs Cote d'Ivoire

Inside the Apartheid Museum. You get a card when you pay that either says 'Non-White' or 'White' and that determines which entrance you take. Above are collected segregation signs from different places around Johannesburg.

19-June-2010 / Rhino & Lion Reserve Part 3

A jaguar sleeping in the sun.

Siberian tiger as it got up to 'greet' us at the fence. This is a very large animal.

Our only glimpse at a leopard, the last of the big 5.

Jake makes friends with this 7 month old female white lion.

2 white lions, both 7 months old. These 2 were not that interested in playing with us.

19-June-2010 / Rhino & Lion Reserve Part 2

After chewing on my ankles and wrists, this 3 month old gnaws on a water bottle.

Joe with a few baby while lions.

This is my favorite animal...a female white rhino with a baby at its side. This rhino is bigger than our Kia Picanto. Cape buffalo and a wildebeest in the background.

Very rare white lions at feeding time, chowing down on some dead horse carcass.

19-June-2010 / Rhino & Lion Reserve Part 1 (Joe's first day here)

After strolling past us, he decided to plop down to air out his undercarriage. Not much there if you ask me, considering he's the king of the jungle and all.
